Today at 3:04 am, this Little One turns 8! This face, these eyes, this personality, this grin, this gentle, sensitive heart, this girl brings us absolutely immeasurable joy. I'll never forget holding her in my arms for the first time, looking into these blue eyes, thinking: "where have you been all my life? Finally...you're here!" Havalah Ruth, you are more precious than anything. Happy birthday, Little Beauty!
When she was just a few days old, my sweet Mother-in-Law, gave me a book of poems about babies and children. "Where Did You Come From, Baby Dear" happened to be in this book and it spoke to me like a voice from heaven. I immediately memorized it, as it was exactly how I felt about this darling baby girl that was (and still is!) a perfect gift from God. Because quoting it to a newborn, just didn't seem quite right I put it to a familiar tune and sang it to her day and night. Most days, right before she goes to sleep, right after she giggles and laughs with wonderful Daddy of course, she still asks for "her song", so, of course, I oblige. ♥
Where did you come from, baby dear?
Out of the everywhere into here.
Where did you get your eyes so blue?
Out of the sky as I came through.
What makes the light in them sparkle and spin?
Some of the starry spikes left in.
Where did you get that little tear?
I found it waiting when I got here.
What makes your forehead so smooth and high?
A soft hand stroked it as I went by.
What makes your cheek like a warm white rose?
I saw something better than anyone knows.
Whence that three-cornered smile of bliss?
Three angels gave me at once a kiss.
Where did you get this pearly ear?
God spoke, and it came out to hear.
Where did you get those arms and hands?
Love made itself into hooks and bands.
Feet, whence did you come, you darling things?
From the same box as the cherubs' wings.
How did they all just come to be you?
God thought about me, and so I grew.
But how did you come to us, you dear?
God thought about you, and so I am here.

Love the poem, Kristen. I have heard it before, but it's been a long time. I would love to hear it as your song!
