Field Trip: bee farm

Exactly one year ago the kids and I met a bee keeper, Gary, outside of Starbucks.  He was carrying a gallon of his honey and asked us to keep an eye on it while he went inside to buy his coffee.  We struck up a conversation and I mentioned how I'd always wanted to take our children to a honey farm to see how honey is made.  He put me in touch with a homeschooling group and said he'd love to have us come the following June.  Fast forward 12 months and here we are.

It was truly such a cool experience to watch these bees hard at work doing what they do.  Gary was so patient with all the kids, letting each of them wear the bee suits, use the smoker, pet the drones, identify the queen and just generally observe his million (literally) bees!  Before our trip to Heavenly Honey, Henry was terrified of bees, afterwards he's a total pro.  (Big proud smile from Mommy.)

If you are ever in need of some local (Seattle), organic honey, this is your guy.

today...

...at the pool.  It was 58 degrees and windy.  And the light was really, really strange.  But that didn't stop my two little fishes, they were the last ones out at closing time as usual.  We are so thankful to have this new wave pool just up the street.
