zoo and aquarium

A few Sundays ago we decided to head out and take advantage of our zoo and aquarium pass one last time before it expired. There were two great things about the day. One, J was along. Enough said. The second great thing was we've figured out that we can go to the zoo a half hour before closing and a) avoid the crowds and b) see the animals being fed their dinner. Plus the keepers won't kick you out for about an hour after closing. (Disclaimer - this has been our experience but I shouldn't make any promises.)
The kids really love the zoo. Can't you tell?

This is a puffin. ;)

The polar bears always keep their distance, but one of these days I'm going to get a shot of one up close.
Awww...it's Duma! Remember him? He was so happy to see us. No rides today though.
Back in September these little Tiger cubs were so little!

Now look at them!
Havalah always brings her sketch book. I love that about her. Since it wasn't busy, she had a front row seat to sketch the Siamangs. Not sure what Henry's doing there, though.

One of the best parts of the aquarium are the seahorses. The little one, above, is about an 1/8 of an inch tall. Amazing. Look at how big the shrimp behind him is in comparison.

And, of course, the shark tank. My favorite.

And last, but not least, we went to the Walrus tank. Oh my goodness, I was having a hey day clicking away with my camera. Click, click, click, click, click, click, click.
It wasn't until I heard some snickering that I looked up and saw J looking at me wondering when I was gonna notice. The group of people behind me had certainly noticed - thus all the snickering.
Yeah. Do you see it? Of course you do. I've always been a bit oblivious. Ahem.

So then, he swam around like this the rest of the time we were there. It is a G rated zoo after all.

Ha! That's hilarious! I'm glad the walrus remembered that it's a family show. ;)

So, where did that big ring come from? Did the walrus just find it somewhere in the tank? I remember that walrus. I think he had the hots for you and all your camera clicking - Ha-Ha! ~n.

Oh, those baby tigers need to quit growing so fast! I still haven't been to see them yet. I really want to check out the Pt. Defiance zoo...it looks like there's a lot of different animals there that Woodland doesn't have.

I've always thought the walrus' were girls... I can't believe how big the tiger cubs are now. We almost went to the zoo today, but I couldn't talk Hazel into it. Oh well... our pass doesn't expire until May.
