We returned home last night from our two weeks in Hawaii. For me, there is nothing on God's green earth than I love more than being with my 3 most favorite people, in the hot sun on the scorching sand. 110% bliss.
Can I share some photos? I took hundreds of them and I'll be gradually putting them up on one of my Flickr accounts if you want to see more.
our condo - the Wyndham Royal Sea Cliffs
We were so fortunate this trip, to see sea turtles swimming along side us almost every time we were at the beach. We kept teasing Havalah that she would lose her very loose tooth while swimming and it would fall out of her mouth and a turtle would gobble it up. We were almost right...she DID lose it while swimming with the turtles, but she managed to hold onto it.
We visited the Dolphins at Dolphin Quest a few times. This is one of those places where kids and adults can take a class about these marine mammals and then have the chance to interact with them - not really swimming with the dolphins, but getting a chance to feed them and touch them. It is a lot of money - really way too much - but we were considering it for Havah. Fortunately for our wallets, Henry is still too young. At dinner that night we were talking with a local and he said to try swimming at the bay near Captain Cook's Memorial. The next morning we drove over and to our extreme delight there was a pod of dolphins swimming right where he said there would be!
In this photo Jon and Havah beginning their long swim (I'm guessing 1/4 mile) out to the dolphins. Jon counted 20 dolphins, including some calves swimming all around he and Havah. They actually got within about 10 feet of the pod. So exciting! And, yes, I did get a chance to swim out to the dolphins too. :) However, I have an overactive imagination, so I happened to be a little paranoid during my swim.
Henry's latest love is golf. He was happy.
The kids learned some traditional Hawaiian weaving and made a neat little fish.
Our condo hosted lots of hula shows and traditional Hawaiian activities. Both kids fell in love the the activities director, Joy.

Can you spot the gecko's shadow? By the end of our two weeks, the kids were getting quick enough to catch these little cuties.
I learned some new things about my family on this trip. I discovered that Havah adores swimming in the ocean. Which made me very happy because she was exactly how I was when I was little. What's that? You can't see her? That's cause she was ALWAYS UNDER WATER. Very convenient for her when her Mommy is trying to tell her something. ;)

It looks like the perfect trip! I'm sooo glad you had such an amazing time. I know it was well needed.
I loved seeing all these photos and reading about your trip! It sounds amazing. How cool to get to swim with wild dolphins.
What great fun! I love reading about your vacation. It looks like such a good time. We're on vaca right now, and I must say our stories are not so glamorous. We're stuck in the rain in a really. crappy. condo. Never coming back here. But enough about that! Thanks for sharing. I have that very same overactive imagination and I NEVER would have gone out to the see the sharks favorite food!
Thanks for sharing. I can almost smell the ocean mixed with the sweet scent of the plumeria flower. ~gram
