Life Update

In an effort to try to update what we've all been up to, consider this the cliff notes edition. :D
2019 was a year full of the unexpected.  Right before the new year I tore my achilles playing pickleball with Henry, which as it turns out, isn't a quick fix.  I did my best to ignore the pain for as long as possible, until Jon dragged/convinced me to see an orthopedist who broke the bad news that the injury was quite bad.  It turned out that my other achilles was only hanging on by a thread as well.  I underwent a series PRP injections, was basically on bed rest during this time, ended up attending physical therapy, and wore a full length boot for the better part of 7 months, (I actually wore a hole through the bottom of the boot!).  After 6 months of injections and therapy, thinking it was healed I went in to find that there were actually new micro-tears in the tendon. So....I started visiting a chiropractor whose goal was to heal the diseased tendons, which will hopefully keep this from  happening again. I still haven't gone back to any sort of exercise except for swimming.  Hopefully this year sometime.

In January I was so fortunate to become acquainted with an employee from glassybaby, a company that has been near and dear to my heart for 17 years.  Not to be dramatic lol, but in some ways this was life changing for me.  My new acquaintance and friend, Anja, was in charge of the national road shows, and I became her Houston contact.  She invited me on several occasions to work with her at roadshows, learning the ropes and eventually was able to host my own popups and go on to work at their month-long Houston pop-up in December.  It has truly been a dream come true, and I hope that they return in the future and I can keep my working relationship with the company.  In the midst of a hard year physically, God was faithful to provide me with this amazing opportunity.

Havalah is a junior this year and continues to write, draw, read, and excel at pretty much everything she tries her hand at.  She also got her first job working at glassybaby with her mama! :D New to her this year is a Latin tutoring gig at our homeschooling community, Classical Conversations.  She joined the Young Writers Workshop last February and has built some very sweet friendships with like minded young writers. God dropped this group on our doorstep right when it was needed and we're so thankful.  She's finished the second draft of her novella, and will begin the 3rd draft in a few months.  She had the opportunity to alpha read for S.D. Smith, who has been a wonderful mentor for her as she works on her first book.

Henry is in 9th grade and has recently rediscovered his love for speed cubing.  We're headed to a Rubik's competition in a few weeks, so he's been working hard to shave milliseconds off his solving times. He's still playing pickleball and is quite the force to be reckoned with.  Henry and Jon have enjoyed playing Minecraft together this past year and have build quite the virtual world.  They also make youtube videos together and are working on hitting the 1000 subscriber mark.

Jon, being the hardest worker I know, changed jobs just over a year ago, which was a huge blessing.   He joined a firm where he is so happy, and for the first time in his professional career feels like he's found the place where he'll be until retirement.  He also uses every spare second to work on our kitchen remodel, which I'm ecstatic to tell you that we're finally closing in on.  THIS IS OUR YEAR, PEOPLE.  As I type the dry wall is being installed, and Jon is assembling the cabinets, and we're shopping for countertops this weekend - IT'S HAPPENING.  If you've seen our kitchen, then you know what I'm talking about. #whenyouknowyouknow

Thanks for reading - this was a long one!

I got to see my sister, Mary Beth, (next to me) not once but TWICE in 2019! We're at Magnolia Table visiting with Joanna's mom!

Another milestone for us this year was new flooring! What a dream come true!

All my dreams came true this year when I received the actual recipe for my fave food ever, the boneless chicken from Larry's Drive In.  And yes, I bought a deep fryer.

What a sweet year for your family! I know there were ups and downs, but the ups really shine through bright! What a cool opportunity with glassybaby, your kids are really excelling in all their areas of interest and I can't wait to see your finished kitchen. What a labor of love. Wishing you a happy, healthy year. 2020 is going to be a good one, Friend!

Say... I see several of my pictures here. So glad I got some good ones! The glassy baby adventure sounds so fun, and I am so psyched for your kitchen progress. I didn’t even know about the floors – does that mean the white brick/stone is all gone?

And that is so cool about SD Smith!
