A day in the life

It's been a long time since I did a day in the life post, so here we go!  This was a typical day for us, nothing too special on the calendar. So in case you've ever wondered, here's an example of what we do all day ;)

I'm up at 6:45 and head towards the kitchen to make tea and check in on the few blogs that I still read.

(Sidenote: I was telling my husband how much I miss the old days of blog reading.  Most blogs now, are filled with affiliate links and lots of swipe-ups, not the personable blogs that they used to be. What happened?  Just me? My fave blog is here, in case you want to take a look.  Whitney has become a good friend of mine - I think I started reading her blog in 2012 or so.  I just love her - and her blog!)

Anyway!  So I drink my tea and slowly wake up for about 30 minutes and then head to the kitchen to check on all my ferments.  Fermented food has become a big part of my diet in the last few years (still acclimating my family to the idea of fermented food), and I'm currently enjoying kefir, viili yogurt, and kombucha.  I hope to add fermented veggies to the list this year, I need to read up on it.  So, most days my kitchen looks a little like a lab lol.

At 7:30 I check to see that H and H are waking up.  They both tend toward the night owl end of the spectrum, so I make sure they're up somewhat early so they can fall asleep at a decent hour.

9:00 breakfast - we usually eat eggs and toast.  And more tea.  :)

9:15 time to start school.  We have our school room, which you'll see below, but if the kids need to type a paper they'll use the computer upstairs.  We work straight until lunchtime on school.  Two days a week Henry plays pickleball, so he'll do schoolwork until we leave at 10:50, and Havalah will keep plugging away at her work.  Today was a pickleball day, so Henry and I headed off to the rec center.

12:30 lunchtime - normally we eat lunch at home, but on this day we went to have lunch with Jon!

1:30 the kids are back to work, and I'm working through my to-do list, which today includes painting the kitchen and taking photos for some eBay listings.

4:00 done with school for the day and time to run a few errands.

5:00 home once again and begin to start dinner.  Since I don't have a kitchen, I'm a little limited in what I can make - but grilled sandwiches (from the electric frypan) are what's on the menu tonight.

6:00  Havalah and I head out to an aqua fit class while Henry starts Algebra 2 with Jon.  When we get home it'll be Havalah's turn for Pre-calc with Jon.

8:30 Jon is finishing up some cabinet building while I clean up (washing dishes in the laundry room is loads of fun ;)

9:00ish we sit down to watch something all together - Jon recently discovered that The Waltons are on Prime, so that's been fun...for us. The kids are not quite as thrilled, ha.

10:00 kids head to bed to read for a bit.

11:00-11:15 we head to bed

So, that's our day in a nutshell.  About halfway through the day I forgot to keep taking take pics - I'll try and do better next time :)

kefir and container of yogurt

our neighbor gave us a bunch of lemons - getting ready to juice them for lemonade.  What a treat!

I'd love to show you a tidy school table, but this is what it looks like 95% of the time.  #reallife :)

Our house is currently is quite a state of disarray, but sooo thankful that the kitchen project has some momentum.
Soon, y'all, soon!

I loved reading about your day!! These are my favorite kinds of posts and then to read such a lovely shout out to me - THANK YOU!! I always appreciate your kind words and encouragement. That's so awesome that you get to set your own schedules as a family and that both you and John tag team the teaching for homeschooling. That's such a wonderful thing that your kids get to experience. I don't know anything about fermented food. Sounds like a fun hobby to get into. Bread making is mine right now. Thanks for sharing about your days! Can't wait to see how the kitchen comes along this year. You'll have to share before pictures, during/planning and the finished product. I love seeing big projects come together!
