family day camp - jungle day

Whew! I'm tired, y'all. Oh wait. Today's jungle day. I'm supposed to be dropping the accent, so I guess I'm just tired. Family day camp was lots of fun and the kids are already planning for next year.
Here's what we did:
-drew safari maps
-went on safari (This here's a big budget operation. Darn. There I go again with the southern drawl. I tell you, it's addicting.)
-made rain sticks
-jungle animal charades
-played "guess the animal"
-designed sand parrots
-made pop-up books
-ate jungle (zucchini) bread

Some highlights:

Henry is trying figure out what animal he's just pulled out of the basket - without peeking.

The kids always have fun making maps. Havalah got pretty detailed, putting the animals in their correct locations. While we were working on the maps, we found an awesome website that we've had up on our computer ever since. It is called Africam. There are 4 cameras filming live footage in Africa. It was incredibly cool to hear the sounds of the Elephant plains and see monkeys playing in the trees.
Some of the animals on our safari were pretty camouflaged, if I do say so myself.

Well, some were anyway.

The sand parrots were a lot of fun. It was nice to break out of the box and use something besides markers.

Henry loves to write stories and will often dictate them to me. This is a rather silly one, which I guess makes it all the more fun. (click the photo if you'd like to enlarge it in order to read his story) The pop-up was entirely his design and turned out pretty cute.

Thanks for stopping by to hear about our day camp! Have a great weekend!

SO fun! I love the parrots. I think we are making maps this week, so it was fun to see yours.

What a wonderful day it must have been for both you and the kids! You're amazing!

Keep up the wonderful work you do each day to make a difference in their lives (and in mine too as you share your ideas!)
