weekend recap

How was your weekend? We had one of those sweet, rare weekends filled with fun goofy moments. Last night Jon and I were sitting on the couch, trying to remember if we had actually done anything productive. And by productive I mean working on the basement plumbing, painting the master bedroom, mowing the lawn, or washing the dishes. :)
So...nothing productive, but very enjoyable! Here is a bit of a recap. We started the fun on Thursday night with cupcakes for dinner (yes!) and a night at the museum.

Friday found us with a trip to the park to scooter, and play with Grandma. And lots of digging up worms and moving plants around in the backyard when we got home. Saturday started with doughnuts and a trip to a flea market, where the only thing we found was a vintage toy set of the Berenstain Bears Family. Later we went down to the beach to play and search for little sand crabs.

See the crab?
See my shoe? Not sure why I took this one.

Now that we are back to "city living" we are finding that our costs are significantly higher. So we have started adjusting our budget, cutting back in as many areas as we can. Jon's parents gave us an entertainment book last fall, and, as much as possible, we are limiting our eating out, (once a week), to restaurants that are found only in the book. This has been fun and is forcing us to try new places. As luck would have it, the restaurant that was on the beach where we were playing was in the entertainment book so we we headed in for some fish and chips. You'd think that after a few hours of fresh air, the kids would have been worn out. But if you thought that, you'd be wrong. ;) So, Henry entertained us with some of this:

which got a lot of smiles like this:

Sunday morning arrived and the day started with Jon making me my favorite breakfast ever. EVER. If you live in the Seattle area, you must, you MUST go have breakfast at the Salmon Bay Cafe. Oh sure, it's a dive, and the guy next to you will either be an old sea salt or a young hipster, but oh my word, the omelets are like a little slice of heaven. So being the sweet guy that he is, Jon recreated the Magnolia omelet for me. It had avocado, sharp cheddar, sour cream and bacon. If you're ever here on a Sunday morning, he'll make you one. : )
Sunday afternoon, we found ourselves on a walk to the grocery store to pick up the needed ingredients to make California Rolls for dinner. As a side note, Henry loves to stop his scooter about every five feet (I'm not kidding), to pick me a flower, which turned into this pretty bouquet.

Havalah must ask me every other day if we can have sushi for dinner (and by sushi she means a California roll). I've always been a bit intimidated by making these, but found a great tutorial here. And it was so easy! If you happen to live near a Daiso (Japanese Dollar store) you can pick up all the needed supplies for just a couple bucks).

So that's about it! Did your weekend have any special moments?

It sounds like you are very happy living in the city again. You've just mentioned many places that I want to try now....first being that omelet place. :) I have wanted to go to the Washington State history museum for a long time and haven't got around to it yet. Did you like it?

Dawn- That museum was really, really well done - lots of interactive exhibits. We haven't learned any US or WA state history yet, but the kids still had a blast. There is a huge electric train and a Sasquatch exhibit which they really liked. :)

That omlette sounds pretty good! If there are any spots in your Entertainment book you're fond of, you're welcome to our coupons. I can't imagine we'd use the ones for up north...

This sounds like such a lovely weekend, You are so lucky to have two lovely children. I just had one of those weekends where you potter around (do you use that therm in th US?) It was lovely just doing bits a pieces, making stuff for my Etsy shop, nipping to the shops. Very relaxing.

I'd say you were productive! And, we did the Entertainment book for years--it saved us so much money and it was fun and adventurous. We found a lot of favorite restaurants that way. We'd raid our friends and family's books for our fave coupons, "you are going to use this one , are you?" :)
