the zoo. part 1

On Saturday morning, after we grabbed some donuts, we headed to Northwest Trek, which is part zoo and part free roaming wildlife park, with a 400 acre tram tour. There are also many trails for some light hiking, or in our case adventuring. (thanks to Henry for this awesome word. I'll use it forever, even though I'll get weird looks from people.)

Throughout the day H & H kept saying how exciting and fun it was to be "adventurous". We heard a lot of this:

"C'mon Havah, follow me, let's have an adventure."
or
"Why do I have to talk quieter, Mommy, being loud is much more adventurous."
Or my personal favorite: "But, Mommy, I love making growling noises at the cougars, it's very adventurous, and anyway, I think they like it."
Apparently it doesn't take much to make our kids happy. Being adventurous is right up there with thinking about candy.

With all the chaos of the last 5 months it dawned on me just how long it's been since just the four of us headed out together to have an adventure. We're together most of the time, I kept telling myself, why is this different? I finally came to the conclusion that it must be because our family time, lately, has consisted of us being home but all working/playing in different areas of the house. Or maybe we'll jump in the car and take an exciting family trip to The Home Depot. What I'm trying, very inarticulately to say, is it was nice to have a day, with no other distractions, to be together. We needed that. And it was wonderful.

Time together is absolutely, without a doubt, the best thing ever.

I get what you're saying. I'm glad your family got to get away together for an adventure. Cute pictures!

How FUN!!! :) I am so happy for you to have this after waiting so long!

I LOVE that he used "adventure" to it's fullest potential! It's my sweet husband's favorite word too and I am always amazed how just calling it that can change the entire day and how we look at it! :)

Too cute!!

Your pictures are so beautiful too!!

You are already "rich" because, for you, being together is the best, and it always was, and it always will be! Never forget that where your heart is, your treasure is! ~ma

Harder to have those type of adventures in a day trip with bigger kids... and still little kids. You are blessed to realize the blessing you have within your grasp these years!

BTW, in answer to your question about phonics, I have used Sing, Spell, Read and Write with all four of my kids. It's a great program. :-) Don't think you need it, though, with Henry reading so well already last summer!
