thinking outside of the box

With 6 days till we start loading our moving truck, it's been an interesting balance of what Christmas toys, books and decorations get to come out of boxes. We made some exceptions for a few of our favorite things: Santa's workshop...

and the Nativity (of the Playmobil variety).

Havalah loves to make up Christmas stories so our vintage reindeer, Santa and his sleigh got to come out of it's box. When I snapped this photo she was making up a story called Christmas in the Hundred Acre Wood. The next day she had all her fairies out and told me she was pretending they were having an An Fashioned Fairie Christmas. I wanna go to an old-fashioned Fairie Christmas, don't you?? Her imagination is the coolest thing.

As far as decorating the tree? We agreed to make everything from scratch and have a "Sweets" theme. I bought some of those cool edible markers and the kids drew Christmas pictures on marshmallows.

We hung some gumdrops,

Made some yarn pompoms,

And glittered up some pine cones from our nature walk.

I think the best thing of all are the gingerbread boys (and reindeer and angels and stars).

Your tree looks so cute! We have that same nativity set. The Playmobile pirates keep kidnapping Mary!

what an amazing mother you are. I can't tell my kids all the cool stuff you do or they'll think less of me. We just got the playmobile nativity. In fact, I'm giving it to them tonight. When I opened your page, my son saw it and said "hey, that's cool. I want one of those." :)

I love the marshmallow idea! We had those edible markers years ago... maybe I will look for them when we are in the US. Did you get them at the grocery store? Maybe my girls and Jenna's girls can do this together! Thinking of you...

I don't know how you're doing this, Kristen, but great job! I'd have run out of energy ages ago. I'm going to have to print out all your craft blogs when Hazel's older. I think we'll have to avoid edible yummies on the tree for a little longer... :)
I hope Henry and Havah found the cookies Hazel made for them. I think Eric forgot to mention them.

Love the pictures on marshmallows! What fun and such a good idea. Looks to me like you are doing a great job with the holidays although life is a bit more stressful with the move.

Sorry about the Craftsman, I had sent a long-winded comment, but don't see it.....hmmm, blogger is upsetting sometimes.

Happy holidays and warm wishes to you and your family Kristen!
