scratch and sniff art

It all started with some inspiration from Flower Patch Farm Girl and unsweetened Kool-Aid. Just mix each packet with 2 T water. And add some fruit still life. Havalah arranged all the fruit, and I think she did such a nice job!
Scratch N Sniff painting!

H & H started by drawing their still life with a permanent marker, then they painted their fruit with the appropriate smelling "paint". (For guidelines for teaching your child to draw still life the book Drawing with Children is a great resource.)

Our kitchen smelled soooo good.

We put the leftover Kool Aid paint into ice cube trays (thanks Christy Ann for this awesome idea!) and Henry has been painting abstracts ever since.

But don't forget...this Kool Aid is UNSWEETENED.

I love it!

I've heard of this and always forget to try it. How fun!

Loved these paintings, but I wished the scents were still lingering by the time we saw them. Hazel was thrilled to recognize her painting on the wall, by the way. She remembered that the big orange blob was supposed to be moss. Too funny that Henry tasted the 'popsicles.'

Hooray! Hooray!!! This project was so fun. And we left our artwork hanging for all of Winter. It brightened this gloomy place right up. So glad they liked it. And great idea w/ the ice cube tray!
