nest buiding

A few months ago, when we were at the zoo, one of the keepers was doing a presentation about creating animal habitats in your own backyard. She said one of the most basic things to do is to put lint from your dryer outside for nest building. It worked! We were visited by a very ambitious little Mama-to-be Chickadee, who was really going to town, taking all the lint she could, as quickly as possible. Maybe I'll do some more loads of laundry today. Maybe. : )

How fun! Where do you put the lint?

We just put it in a tree in our backyard. It's not even that high off the ground. The lint has been through many rain and wind storms, but the birds still like it!

:) What a wonderful idea! I would have never thought of that! So, you just lay it on a branch?

How cool!!

The tree the chickadee in your photo is in is so lovely, with it's curly branches!

Nothing like moms helping other moms out--even if it is of the aviary sort!

We put in a bird feeder last summer and now I can't imagine living without it. We've named the birds and everything. Hopefully they won't eat the veggies we just planted today in the new tph garden. :)
