Gasp! Look at this mess! What's next, a photo of my dirty laundry? I remember reading long ago about a decorator/homeschool teacher talking about how she was no longer hard on herself because their learning area didn't look like it had come from a magazine. I've been finding comfort in that lately.
I have to laugh when I look around at our school room, which today actually looks pretty tame. Years from now I want to remember this mess, which is what homeschooling currently looks like at our house. Remnants of our morning tea, scraps of paper from Henry's art projects, a reheated lunch and lots and lots of books. It is what my Mother in Law would lovingly call a Happy Mess. The good news? It's all cleaned up by dinner time, but it'll be back in the morning.
As soon as the weather starts turning more spring-like, we ALWAYS eat our lunch outside. I snapped this photo, through the window, of the kids. I love it, because there are benches all around the table, but they chose to sit together.

For some reason Blogger kept flipping this photo, so I'll have to make do. But Henry had fun making some "snow" pictures.
N is for Number. Henry LOVES anything having to do with math. He continued his numbers on the back and told me: "I'm saving this project to use as my Advent Calendar in December. Don't lose it Mommy."
I also wanted to document a little bit of what Henry's been up to lately. This project if one of my favorites. We were learning about opposites and I had Henry draw a self portrait with first his right hand, then his left. It's also a good gross motor skill activity.
I have to take a moment and mention one of my favorite blogs where I get a lot of my project ideas for Henry. It's a great place to go if you need ideas for teaching or just having hands-on fun with a pre-schooler. Kristi blogs every single day and has her blog so well organized that I can find a project idea in an instant. She was also my college roommate, my educational experiences teaching partner and we taught elementary school together for several years. Kristi's a wonderful friend.

That table looks surprisingly familiar. On the good days, ours is cleaned by dinnertime, too :)
Ahhh, thanks for the sweet comments on your blog!
Your projects all turned out fabulous! And I love the picture of the kids eating outside. Oh my goodness, I can't wait until we can do that too!
That happy mess makes me miss homeschooling. I love some of those books that I see out on your table.
I love the right/left hand drawings - what a great idea. It reminds me of the weeks I spent as a lefty at age 9, with my right wrist in a splint.
How do you get the marshmallows on the paper and not in the mouth? I'm not sure even I could manage that. :)
You've got a great deck - I'm glad you're using it already!
Mother-in-law's table is a mess today, too! I'm researching genealogy...where did the day go? I forgot to eat! Where did the pile of papers and files come from? Help, I didn't get it put away for dinner! What dinner? ~Nad
Thank you for this!
It's SO encouraging to be reminded that we do not have to have everything perfect all the time. I need to recall this hourly, I think!
I really love this.
