books to soothe the soul

There haven't been many times in Havalah's life that the flu has really hit her hard. These last two days have fallen into that category. Poor thing. The upside is that the three of us have had lots of snuggly reading time on the couch. Some of our favorites this week have been: We just recently found this book at Goodwill for under $2 and we have been loving it. One of the stories we've enjoyed is called "Please Please". It is a story about how we all have a little word named Please that lives on the roof of our mouth. Once there was a little boy that almost never let his "Please" come out of his mouth for some fresh air...which all Pleases desperately need to be kept strong and happy.

Susan Jeffers has taken this poem by Eugene Field, about a sister and her two brothers, and beautifully illustrated it. Did you know that Wynken is an eye, Blynken is an eye and Nod is the head? The kids loved that part. I loved the way the moon was smiling down on the children throughout the story. This poem is so rich that I'm currently researching how we can incorporate it into our curriculum and and do a little more with it.

This lovely book is apart of Havah's curriculum. We always have so much reading to do with homeschooling, but this week, we were able to really slow down and savor this delightful story. Even Henry has been enjoying it so far.

Today, everyone seems to be back to normal! We hope that you are all happy and well! Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm so sorry that Havah isn't feeling well. I hope she's better in time to enjoy the big meal tomorrow. We really loved Mr. Popper's Penguins at this house as well.

How fun to hear about the books you are enjoying-although I'm sorry Havah is sick! Please give her hugs and kisses from me and a Gobble Gobble from Eli! :)
